Experience
Tami is a Master’s Degree prepared nurse with over 30 years experience as a clinician, academic researcher, and educational consultant. She has a broad background in palliative care, quality of life (QOL), symptom management, spirituality, and end of life care, both in the hospital setting and in the home environment. Over the past 32 years working with Dr. Betty Ferrell at City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, CA, Tami was the Project Director for many NCI funded R01 studies as well as for a P01 study. All research involved addressing QOL and Tami has had extensive experience in providing education to patients with advanced cancer, their caregivers, and nurses.
Tami also worked two years at the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center as a research specialist/palliative care nurse educator in the palliative care program. While there, she served as Chair of the Palliative Care team for the DC Cancer Coalition.
Tami has presented both nationally and internationally and has authored/coauthored over 70 publications as well as several chapters and monographs. She served as editor for the Core Curriculum for the Hospice and Palliative Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse and Study Guide. In 2009 Tami was inducted as a Fellow of Palliative Care Nursing. She also is a reviewer for several peer reviewed journals for oncology, palliative care, hospice, and supportive care.
Since retiring from City of Hope in August 2025, Tami began working as a consultant helping others with their career goals, assisting with education, and editing. She and her husband live in Pennsylvania and enjoy their pets, beautiful sunsets over acres of apple orchards, and college football.
